Alfonso Fernández, a young man fresh out from the journalism school, dreams about becoming a writer; but he must be satisfied with doing his pre-professional practices in the tabloid “El Clamor”. He is assigned to the police section and must face his boss Saul Fernandez, a disenchanted type who moves normally to corpses and blood. Alfonso, nicknamed “Varguitas” by his boss, will learn from his co-workers – the silent photographer Escalona, the old chauffeur Van Gogh and Saul – all that is not taught in the university. He immerses himself in the chaotic city of Lima and its contradictions.
