The long struggle for land sought to tear down that wall between patrons and serfs that continues to divide Peru to this day. However, the Agrarian Reform Law of 1969 marked a before and after in the faces and in the official histories of our country, a profound change that the Peruvian cinema managed to reflect and encapsulate in some of its most notable films, building a great imaginary that today we rediscover. Fifty years after the social experiments of the so-called “Peruvian Revolution”, we have to ask ourselves if Peru really got fucked or not with Juan Velasco Alvarado.
